End of Summer Recipes to Try Out
It’s back-to-school time already. Pools are closing down for the season. Fall clothing and holiday decorations are already for sale everywhere you look. But summer isn’t really over until you let it be! Go ahead, call your friends and invite them over for an “endless summer” barbeque. If you want to stretch out your summer even further, try these perfectly paired recipes featuring a couple of your favorite summer classics.
Hot Dog Toppings Trio
A summer BBQ just isn’t the same without hot dogs on the grill. Choose a quality frank, ideally a mixture of beef and pork. But don’t let those doggies go bare. Wow your guests (and their taste buds) with this trio of delicious dog toppers.
Spicy Mango Salsa: combine 2 chopped mangos with 1-2 diced jalapenos and ¼ cup of fresh cilantro. Squeeze half a lemon over and add salt and pepper to taste. Top your hot dog and taste the tropical heat. Great over bratwurst too!
Fiery Guacamole: pit and mash 2 avocados combined with 1 tbsp of lime juice. Mix in ½ of an onion, 1 tomato, 2 cloves of garlic, and 2 jalapeno peppers—all finely chopped. Add salt and pepper to taste. Finish it off with a tabasco or hot sauce for drizzling.
C-B-B: just three ingredients make this a topping you’ll be coming back to for seconds. Melt cheddar cheese and swirl in spicy barbeque sauce. Pair with crumbled bacon bits for a textured crunch.
Ultimate (Adult) Milkshake
Making the ultimate milkshake is part art and part science—but all delicious! Gather and prep your ingredients before you take the ice cream (or frozen yogurt, etc.) out of the freezer. And put a glass in the freezer ahead of time to keep your milkshake frozen longer. Quality and inventive ingredients will make this a milkshake to remember.
Milkshake: Whatever frozen treat you’ve chosen, wait until it is mildly soft, then blend three rounded scoops with 2 oz of a creamy liquid—milk, almond milk, coconut milk, etc. Do not add ice! Fold in any desired extras (see below) with a spoon after chopping or crushing them on the side. For a creamier texture, add malted milk powder which brings out the flavor of the other ingredients.
Mix-In Options: cookies, gummy candies, chopped nuts, cocoa beans, coffee beans, fresh fruit, chocolate chips, sprinkles, tapioca pearls, caramel sauce, pretzels, marshmallows, cereal, graham crackers, mint leaves, peanut butter, nuts, pumpkin puree, Nutella, hot fudge, peanut butter cups, whipped cream…ANYTHING!
Booze it Up: Just about any liquor can be added to a milkshake for an adults-only twist. Try rum with butter pecan ice cream and caramel sauce or mix vanilla ice cream with vodka, Kahlua, and Baileys for a mudslide classic. You’ll only need a splash to get a kick of taste. (Hint: wine can give a sangria-feel to fruity ice cream and sorbet shakes.)
Summer may be coming to a close, but you can keep celebrating with these delicious recipes. Go all out and grill up veggies, toss together a pasta salad, and stock up on the last of the summer flavor beers. Or ask your guests to bring their favorite summer side dish or drink. However you choose to do it, end your summer with a party your stomach will thank you for.
